Caprifigs: The category of caprifigs only grows male flowers and never bears fruit. Their only purpose to grow is to breed female fig trees.
Smyrna: The category of Smyrna figs has all-female flowers. Therefore, they are usually bred by the caprifigs.
San Pedro: The category of San Pedro figs produces two fruits: one on leafless mature wood that requires no fertilization, and the other one is new wood that needs fertilization by a male flower such as Smyrna.
Common Fig Anjeer: Common figs are the common variety mainly grown in home landscapes. They don’t need pollination. Common figs don’t need an opening, so they are less sensitive to decay caused by insects and rainwater accessing the fruit.

- Fig Anjeer trees dig down deep roots, so have that in mind when choosing a planting place.
Harvesting Figs
- It would help if you harvested figs only when fully ripe and should be fully coloured and soft to the touch.
- When picking figs, you must wear gloves or long sleeves because the substance from the fig tree can irritate or burn your skin.
- Figs are very perishable in nature after picking from the trees. Store figs in the fridge for 2 to 3 days.
- For long-term usage, you can freeze figs for later use. Another storage and long term usage method is to dry the figs. You can also use dried figs.
